COL. SAMUEL C. GALBREATH USAF (Ret), born in Jarrettsville, Maryland on September 30, 1917, the son of Samuel W. and Mary Cairnes Galbreath, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the age of 85. He graduated from Jarrettsville High School, June 1934 and from Western Maryland College, June 1940. He was commissioned second Lieutenant US Army Air Corps, February 3, 1941, served thirty years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Among awards earned during service were: the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service in the U.S. Air Force. Col. Galbreath retired, February 1970 to Charleston, S.C. where he engaged in volunteer service work including: The Board of Directors of the YMCA, Retired Officers Association, First Scots Presbyterian Church Board of Deacons and Property Committee, Kiwanis Club of Charleston, and the Sandhurst Civic Association. He married Mary Frances Hawkins of Lynchburg, VA, June 24, 1943. They had one son, Samuel, Jr: and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Hannah Galbreath who live in Portland, Oregon. Memorial Service Sunday, 2 PM at the Air Force Village II High Flight Chapel. Interment in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Madonna, Maryland.
