One person was critically injured in a four-car crash on Route 140 in Westminster yesterday morning.
A 1999 Honda CRV being driven west by Diane Carolyn Cole, 40, of Reisterstown crossed in front of a 1984 Chevrolet, also headed west and driven by Constance June Newton, 49, of Hunt Valley, shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Route 140 near Cranberry Road South, according to a state police report.
Newton swerved and the front of her car clipped the back of Cole's, which hit the median, became airborne and landed in the eastbound lanes. Cole's car then hit a 1993 Toyota T-1000 driven by Brian John Penn, 43, of Westminster and a 2001 Chevrolet Yukon driven by Moody Von Calhoun, 69, of Manchester, state police said.
Cole and Calhoun were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where Cole, of the 13200 block of Old Hanover Road, was in critical condition late yesterday. Calhoun, of the 3200 block of Warehime Road, was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
Penn, of the first block of Smith Ave., was taken by ambulance to Carroll County General Hospital. His condition was unavailable last night. Newton, of the 13000 block of Beaver Dam Road, was not taken to the hospital, state police said.
The accident is under investigation.
