Preseason top 15

1. Mount Hebron

Last season: 19-0, ranked No.1

The only thing better than 10 state crowns is 11. Don't look for anyone to knock the loaded Vikings from their pedestal.

2. Hereford

Last season: 17-1, No. 3

Only three starters remain, but that's enough to give the Bulls a leg up on the competition and fuel another state Class 2A/1A title run.

3. Notre Dame Prep

Last season: 10-4-1, No. 8

In a tight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference, the Blazers get the early edge based on a huge contingent of experienced players and some speedy youngsters.

4. Broadneck

Last season: 16-3, No. 5

The state Class 4A-3A champs' stingy defense should hold off opponents while an all-new attack comes around.

5. Roland Park

Last season: 8-8, No. 9

Will last season's disappointing finish provide motivation for a Reds' run at the A Conference championship?

6. Bryn Mawr

Last season: 12-4-3, No. 6

Look for the young Mawrtians to reload quickly and dive right into a crowded A Conference race.

7. Severn

Last season: 13-5-2, No. 12

A lot of returning firepower should mean smooth sailing for the Admirals in the tough A Conference.

8. Severna Park

Last season: 13-2-1, No. 7

Some questions surround the young Falcons, but top-notch goalie Brooke Shinnaberry should keep them in a lot of games.

9. South River

Last season: 11-3, No. 13

If the Seahawks don't fizzle out as they did late last season, they should make a run at their Arundel foes.

10. Mount de Sales

Last season: 13-4-3, No. 11

Don't look for the Sailors to fall far in the A Conference despite graduating entire defense.

11. Seton Keough

Last season: 13-6, No. 12

Look for the B Conference champs to hit the ground running in the A Conference and against a tough out-of-conference schedule.

12. Maryvale

Last season: 13-1-1, No. 2

The A Conference champs took a huge hit from graduation, including the loss of All-Metro Player of the Year Katie Chrest, but don't count them out yet.

13. St. Mary's

Last season: 10-9-3, unranked

Ten starters graduated but there should be enough talent left to challenge every A Conference foe.

14. St. Paul's

Last season: 9-8, No. 14

Jim Stromberg, who takes over as head coach, should bring stability to a program that has its ninth coach in 13 years.

15. Annapolis

Last season: 14-5, No. 15

With a strong returning group, the Panthers could be ready to make a move back toward the top in Anne Arundel.
