Deborah Ann Patro, 51, medical technician

Deborah Ann Patro, a retired medical technician, died of complications from diabetes Friday at her Abingdon home. She was 51.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Miss Patro was a 1969 graduate of Mercy High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in medical technology in 1973 from what is now Towson University.

She began her career during the 1970s in the laboratory at Union Memorial Hospital and later worked at Good Samaritan Hospital. From 1992 to 2000, she was employed by Johnson & Johnson.

"Her job was setting up laboratory equipment that hospitals purchased and making sure that it was operating properly," said her brother, Richard J. Patro Jr. of Timonium.

Miss Patro returned to Good Samaritan in 2000 and worked in its laboratory until retiring on medical disability last year.

She was an avid European traveler and liked playing golf at the Pine Ridge and Mount Pleasant courses.

She attended St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church.

Services will be held at 11:30 today at Evans Funeral Chapel, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville.

In addition to her brother, Miss Patro is survived by her mother, Josephine Novotny Patro of Carney; a nephew; and two nieces.
