School alcohol policy sends good message

I read the article "Man charged in high school team drinking" (Feb. 27) with a vested personal interest. As a parent of two teen-age sons, I applaud Carroll County public schools for enforcing a policy related to underage drinking.

I strongly encourage [Superintendent] Ecker, in his review of the situation, to stand by the decision. Teen-agers today need a strong message, not just from their parents but from the other influential people in their lives.

If school systems have in place a policy that sends a message to all teen-agers, that actions have consequences, then perhaps the next young person who is tempted to drink will think about all they have to lose, and will have the strength to say no.
