Mike Martino, chairman of American Tire and Wheel LLC, has opened a used-car dealership in Fallston, the second step toward what is expected to become a full-service automotive service center.
When American Auto Center opened on Belair Road near Milton Avenue this month, it joined the American Tire and Wheel retail store that opened at the same site in April.
"Martino is in the process of building - piece by piece - a full-service automotive service center at this location," said Michael Blum, a spokesman for American Tire and Wheel LLC, parent company of the tire store and the used-car dealership.
Blum said it is possible that five automotive-related businesses could open on the site sometime in the future. "We do not anticipate this including a new-car dealership," he added.
Barry D. Scott is general manager of the used-car store.
Scott is no stranger to county car buyers. He is a lifelong resident of Harford County and has more than 25 years of experience selling cars.
He served as general manager of Scott Pontiac on Baltimore Pike in Bel Air for 15 years. Scott Pontiac is now Bel Air Pontiac.
He also operated his own store, Barry Scott's Auto Outlet, in Fallston for five years and previously served as used-car manager at Plaza Ford in Fallston.
The 7-acre used-car lot carries 60 to 80 cars and light trucks, including vans, pickups and sport utility vehicles. It features a showroom displaying some models. Vehicles range from $5,000 to $25,000.
"If they don't have what a customer wants, they will find it," said Blum. "That's another feature of American Auto Center."
Martino was the previous owner of Village Volvo in Bel Air. He operated the store for about 20 years before selling it in late 1999.
During the period it was operated by Martino, Village Volvo was one of the largest Volvo dealerships, in terms of cars sold, in the eastern United States. On several occasions, it was the leading Volvo sales store in the country.
