THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Their tidy proportions, bright lettering and capacity to hold stuff often spare clementine boxes from the trash. Once the winter fruit they hold is consumed, they can be recycled as cat beds or storage space for flower bulbs, bills and paperwork. Plentiful, and constructed mostly from lightweight wood reminiscent of balsa, these crates also invite more creative uses.

Five Baltimore artists, asked to think outside the clementine box, took up the challenge to reenvision the crates with imagination, skill and an appreciation for the inherent beauty of found materials.
