The sophomore (28-1) stretched his winning streak to 25 matches by defeating two ranked wrestlers among his three victories last week.
In his biggest win, against Rising Sun on Tuesday, Knox, normally a 103-pounder, wrestled at 119 and defeated senior Zach Dawson, 10-7. Dawson is ranked fifth in the state in Class 2A-1A, and finished sixth in the state at 112 pounds last season.
Knox, 38-7 his freshman season, is ranked No. 2 by The Sun at 103 pounds. He also defeated The Sun's No. 4-ranked 103-pounder, Jason Jacovsky of Owings Mills, 5-3, Thursday. And he defeated Josh Ridgely of Franklin, 9-1, at 112 pounds on Tuesday.
Knox finished fifth in the state, third in the region and second in Baltimore County last season.
St. Frances, basketball
The 6-foot-1 All-Metro center/forward notched the third triple double of her career and her second this season with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals in a 59-29 victory over St. John's at Prospect Hall on Wednesday. She also had six assists in the game.
McCoughtry compiled 59 points, 40 rebounds and 24 steals as the No. 1 Panthers swept four games last week to clinch the regular-season championship in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference. The junior had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five steals in a win over then-No. 14 Archbishop Spalding and 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals in Sunday's win over No. 12 Mercy.
