Sunday service at Severn church to focus on healing
A service at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 16 will focus on physical and spiritual healing.
It will include anointing with oil and laying on of hands. A reception with coffee and refreshments will be held at 10:30 a.m.
The church is next to the Provinces Library in the Severn Square Shopping Center, 2622 Annapolis Road.

Calvary United Methodist plans trip to Costa Rica
Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis is sponsoring a United Methodist Volunteers in Mission trip to Costa Rica. Twenty-six volunteers from nine area churches will participate in the mission, scheduled for Thursday through Feb. 28.
Seven participants represent Calvary. Others are from churches including Kent Island United Methodist Church, Gatch Memorial United Memorial Church in Baltimore, John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crofton.
The group will stay in San Rafael de Gustuso, a rural town in the north-central part of the country. Its mission will include building an addition to the parsonage in San Rafael, enlarging the Sunday school rooms in the church and helping lead Bible school in Tonjibe, six miles from San Rafael.

Prince of Peace church to open labyrinth to public
Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church will open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for anyone interested in walking the labyrinth. Meditation material will be available in the vestibule.
This month, middle school pupils will study the Gospel of John in Sunday school and prepare a puppet presentation.

Evening course on spirituality and the development of mediumship at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14, 21 and 28 includes discussion and exercises to develop an awareness of the Spirit World. The cost is $10 for each class.

Bishop, professor to speak at St. Anne's Episcopal
St. Anne's Episcopal Church will offer a lecture and discussion on the growth of Christianity worldwide, featuring author and professor Philip Jenkins and Maryland Bishop Robert W. Ihloff.
The Winfee Smith Memorial Lecture will begin at 4 p.m. Feb. 22 in the auditorium of the parish house, 199 Duke of Gloucester St. in Annapolis.
Jenkins is a professor of history and religious studies at Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of many books, including Hidden Gospels, Pedophiles and Priests and Mystics and Messiahs, and has made many appearances on radio and television.
Jenkins' lecture will focus on the topic of his most recent book, The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity, in which Jenkins describes the rapid growth of Christianity in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Ihloff, the 13th bishop of Maryland, will describe his experience of trends and implications for the Episcopal Church of the globalization of Christianity.

Master of the Millennium:
Linthicum Baptist Church will sponsor a winter Bible conference, "Following the Master of the Millennium," from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the church. The Rev. Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, and the Rev. Dorothy Patterson of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., will speak.
