Several employees of a Harford County bleach-manufacturing plant were being treated for breathing difficulties last night at four area hospitals after coming into contact with fumes from an unidentified type of fertilizer, police said.
About 7:30 p.m., three employees of a Clorox Co. plant in the 1300 block of Perryman Road in Perryman were loading bleach into a trailer behind the plant when they began having difficulty breathing, said state police spokesman Lt. Bud Frank.
The fumes came from fertilizer remaining in the trailer from a previous shipment, he said.
Six other employees who went to help their three colleagues also were affected by the fumes, Frank said.
The workers were taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace and Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore County, Frank said. Their conditions were not life-threatening, he said.
