Aberdeen, Wright cheerleaders shine

THE BALTIMORE SUN

For high school girls in Harford County, 10 weeks of practice all came down to a 2 1/2 -minute routine yesterday.

More than 1,500 people packed the Fallston High School gymnasium to watch cheerleaders battle it out for the county title at the first Harford County Winter Cheerleading Competition.

Aberdeen High School and C. Milton Wright High School, the teams with the highest scores, will compete in the Maryland Regional State Competition Feb. 15 at Harford Technical High School.

The competition featured junior varsity and small and large varsity teams from schools in the county.

Each team performed a 2 1/2 -minute routine that included cheering, dancing and chanting. In addition, routines varied from tumbling - such as back handsprings - to more difficult basket tosses - throwing a girl in the air and catching her.

Spectators paid $5 to see the competition.
