Police investigating fatal shooting of Baltimore man, 35

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot yesterday morning in East Baltimore, police said.

The victim, identified as Mike Ivy of the 3100 block of Chesterfield Ave., was shot several times. He was found about 4 a.m. on the front porch of a house in the 2700 block of Beryl Ave.

Ivy was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police were investigating the incident yesterday.

Three men found guilty of robbery and murder

Three men were found guilty in Baltimore Circuit Court Thursday of murder, robbery and several handgun violations in connection with the July killing of Phillip D. Kent in his Cherry Hill home.

Troy Lee Shepherd, 22, and Anthony Wallace, 23, both of the 2600 block of Spellman Road, and Donald Smothers, 25, of the 600 block of Hillview Road forced their way into Kent's home, according to prosecutors.

Kent was stripped and, after he surrendered a shoebox full of money and marijuana, he was shot in the chest, according to testimony.

Modern Orthodox Forum to hold event today

PIKESVILLE - The Modern Orthodox Forum of Baltimore will hold its second annual convention from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah Liberty Jewish Center, 7000 Rockland Hills Drive.

The convention will focus on "Israel: Now & Forever - Halachic Rights & Obligations Pertaining to the Sanctity of Israel." Rabbi Saul Berman, national director of Edah, a Modern Orthodox educational organization, will be the keynote speaker.

19-year-old killed in single-car accident

CROWNSVILLE - A 19-year- old Crownsville man was killed early Friday when the 1993 Jeep Cherokee he was driving veered off Herald Harbor Road near Old Herald Harbor Road in Crownsville and struck several trees, police said yesterday.

David Ronnie Cain III of the 700 block of Valentine Road was taken to North Arundel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said yesterday. Cain was alone in the Jeep. He was wearing a seat belt, but the vehicle was not equipped with air bags, police said.
