On January 25, 2003, EDWARD HAYS BROOKS, Westinghouse Nuclear Physicist and Engineer and resident of Las Vegas, NV, died at the age of 74. Hays was the son of Eva Orr Brooks and Elvin Russell Brooks from Lyon County, KY. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Jean Brooks of Las Vegas, two sons, Dwyte Edward and Gerald Hays Brooks of Las Vegas, two daughters, Roberta Suzanne Brooks and Heather Joy Eikenberry, four grandchildren, two future great-grandchildren, and Sid Vicious, their miniature dachshund great-grandpuppy. Hays was born in Star Lime Works, KY. He had a diverse career which included Professor of Physics at Murray State University; Nuclear Physicist for GE; Engineer for Westinghouse Astronuclear Laboratories; Engineer for Westinghouse Oceanic Division, Annapolis, MD; and a Consulting Scientist for Northrop Grumman Corp in Annapolis, MD. Hays had many personal hobbies and interests including preservation of the Paradise Cemetery, genealogy research, international traveling, bluegrass music, professional wrestling, and storytelling.
