Brandon Nixon, a 6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive lineman from Pottstown, Pa., became the 20th player to commit to Maryland's football program.

Nixon, who chose the Terps over Penn State on Sunday, helped lead Pottstown to a 10-1 record in 2002, playing on both the offensive and defensive lines. Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming rates the player 25th nationally among offensive tackles.

"I felt comfortable with Maryland for a while and I finally came out with a decision," Nixon said. "If I come in with a little knowledge, the only thing that separates me from playing is my strength, so there might be an opportunity to get some playing time."

Overall, Maryland has received six commitments from nationally ranked players, including Gwynn Park linebacker Wesley Jefferson, whom Lemming rates as the top player at his position.

In other team news, E.J. Henderson was named most valuable player for the defense and the team overall at the Terps' postseason banquet Sunday. Chris Downs earned the award for offense. Brooks Barnard and Steve Suter were named the top special teams players.

Linebacker Shawne Merriman and tailback Josh Allen were the team's top freshmen.
