Two Arundel teens rescued from icy creeks

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Two 14-year-old boys fell into icy waters near their homes yesterday afternoon in separate incidents in Anne Arundel County, authorities said.

Joshua Sullivan fell through the frozen surface of Marley Creek near Gatewater Court about 1:30 p.m., said county Fire Chief John Scholz. The boy was submerged at one point, but stood up and got out of the water, which was chest-deep, Scholz said. He was taken to North Arundel Hospital, where he was treated for exposure.

An hour later, Brian Hart fell into Cockey Creek after wandering onto the ice. A neighbor across the creek spotted the incident near Cockey and Laurel drives and threw the teen an extension cord to pull him out, Scholz said. The teen also was treated for exposure at North Arundel Hospital.
