Albert W. Best Jr., 80, railroad price analyst

Albert W. Best Jr., a retired Baltimore & Ohio Railroad pricing analyst, died of cancer Thursday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson. He was 80.

Mr. Best, whose grandfather, father and brother were railroaders, was raised on Riverside Avenue in Locust Point. He was a 1940 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School in Irvington.

Mr. Best, who lived at the Ridgely Condominiums in Towson, began working in the B&O; passenger department in 1940. He later transferred to the freight department, where he was a pricing analyst until retiring in 1984 from the Chessie System, the successor to the B&O.;

He was married in 1942 to his childhood sweetheart, the former Florence A. Rebbert. She survives him.

Mr. Best enjoyed thoroughbred racing, train travel and crossword puzzles.

He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Baltimore and Ware avenues, Towson, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include a sister, Dolores Hennessy of Cockeysville; and many nephews and nieces.
