Alfred J. Pietsch, 69, air traffic controller

Alfred J. Pietsch, a retired air traffic controller and former longtime Glen Burnie resident, died of heart failure Monday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was 69.

Born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, Mr. Pietsch enlisted in the Navy after graduating from high school in 1952. He was a naval air traffic controller at Quonset Point, R.I., until his 1956 discharge.

He worked at Port Columbus Airport in Ohio, and Dulles and John F. Kennedy international airports, and from 1964 until his 1982 retirement at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Since the late 1990s, he had resided in East Liverpool. While living in Glen Burnie, he was a member of Harundale Presbyterian Church and Bay Hills Golf Club in Arnold.

His marriage to the former Marie Snyder ended in divorce.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Ames Funeral Home in Chester, W.Va.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred A. Pietsch of Millersville and Jason J. Pietsch of Glen Burnie; a daughter, Ila Jackson of Columbia; a sister, Frances Carr of Wellsville, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
