Charles J. Greenwalt, who worked in the local tile trades for 35 years, died Wednesday of kidney failure at the home of a relative in Randallstown. He was 83.

Born in Randallstown, he attended local schools, served stateside during World War II and was a union official.

For 35 years, he worked for A. Pezzaro and Co. Mr. Greenwalt was vice president of Local 29 of the Tile, Terrazzo and Marble Finishers Union.

He was married to the former Hilda Nickoles for 62 years.

While in the Army during World War II, he was assigned to an armored unit, his family said. He was a life member of American Legion Post 122 and was a charter member of Liberty Road Volunteer Fire Company. A resident of Chapman Road for most of his life, Mr. Greenwalt enjoyed playing cards, horse racing and sitting on his porch.

Services were held Saturday. Interment was in Holy Family Cemetery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William J. Greenwalt of Randallstown; a sister, Ola Mae Nickoles of Randallstown; a brother, William M. Greenwalt of Randallstown; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
