Up 22 points, Woodlawn just beats Dunbar

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The 12th-ranked Woodlawn girls built a big lead but then had to hold on for a 55-51 victory over Dunbar at yesterday's Basketball Academy Tournament at Coppin State.

Woodlawn (9-0) held a 50-28 lead with 1:28 left in the third quarter. From that point, the Warriors were outscored 23-5.

Dunbar (8-3) chipped away with more defensive pressure, and the Warriors kept fouling. The Poets' Nikima Hill made a free throw to make it 53-48 with 45 seconds left. The Warriors had a chance to put the game away when Brittany Taylor was fouled with 38 seconds left, but she missed both free throws.

Hill was fouled with 25 seconds left and made two to make it 53-50.

The Warriors' Milan Heard, fouled with 14 seconds to go, made two free throws to seal it.
