Marie Elizabeth Platou, 80, homemaker, collector

Marie Elizabeth Platou, a homemaker and antiques collector, died of cancer Jan. 4 at a nursing home in Presque Isle, Maine. She was 80.

Born Marie Elizabeth Strott in Baltimore and raised on Dukeland Street, she was a 1940 graduate of Western High School. She worked for several years as a secretary for Bell Refrigeration Co. in Baltimore.

Mrs. Platou, who had lived in Bel Air for more than 40 years until moving to Presque Isle in 1998, enjoyed collecting antique furniture, attending the theater and traveling. She had been a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Bel Air. Services were held Monday in Presque Isle.

Her marriage to Anders S. Platou Sr. ended in divorce. Mrs. Platou is survived by her son, Anders S. Platou Jr. of Funkstown; a daughter, Andrea P. Pesut of Presque Isle; a brother, Leonard E. Strott of Rockville; and four grandsons.
