Norma Howatt Gary, 88, homemaker

Norma Howatt Gary, a homemaker and former longtime Glen Burnie resident, died in her sleep Jan. 2 at a nursing home in Las Vegas. She was 88.

Born Norma Carter in Rock Hall, she was a 1930 graduate of Rock Hall High School and worked as a seamstress in a shirt factory.

In 1934, she married Robert James Howatt, a merchant mariner who died in 1948. After her 1951 marriage to Everett C. Gary, a milkman, the couple settled in Glen Burnie. He died in 1964.

Mrs. Gary, who had lived in Las Vegas since 2000, enjoyed sewing and canning vegetables and fruits that she grew in her garden. She also liked entertaining family and friends and watching soap operas.

Services are private.

Mrs. Gary is survived by two sons, Robert Carter Howatt and Timothy K. Gary, both of Pasadena; two daughters, Maureen O. Gary of Baltimore and Melissa Gary Poggi of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
