Washington Antiques Show

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Are you a fiend for antiques? If so, get yourself down to the Washington Antiques Show. The show, running today through Sunday at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, features antiques from 45 premier dealers from across the United States and Canada. You'll find 18th- and 19th-century furniture, decorative arts, paintings, Oriental rugs and more.

Local representation will include Baltimorean J.M. Flanigan, who will show furniture from the Federal period, and Centreville resident Gary E. Young, who will display 18th-century English furniture, decorations and miniature portraits.

Also on view will be a loan exhibition from individuals' private collections titled Inside and Outside the Box, with unique boxes from America, Great Britain, Europe, Russia, China and Japan, from nearly the past 1,000 years.

Visitors to the antiques show can attend dealer talks, appraisals, lunch and brunch lectures and even a ball. Talks, geared to both the new antiques collector and the seasoned collector, run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow at dealer booths.

Talks are included in admission. Appraisals run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Fee is $10 per item. Reservations are required for the lecture lunch, lecture brunch and charity ball.

The Washington Antiques Show runs 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today-Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert St. N.W., Washington. $12 admission includes a catalog about the loan exhibition. Call 202-965-0640.
