Story time becomes more than just fun and games as kids learn about unity and culture at the Aberdeen Branch Library on Wednesday.

The library is holding "Reach for Peace," an event to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 20).

Aimed at preschoolers, the program will teach King's lessons of diversity and cooperation through various picture books and a craft project.

Featured stories may include The Colors of Us by Karen Katz, All the Colors of the Earth by Sheila Hamanaka and Whoever You Are by Mem Fox. All have themes of multiculturalism and friendship.

The craft project will follow the reading. Kids will trace their hand on a giant poster board and then decorate and color the drawing. The poster will be hung in the library.

By holding this event to honor the King holiday, the library staff hopes to convey to kids the civil-rights leader's message that all people deserve equality and freedom.
