Wilbur T. Wright Sr., 85, carpenter, superintendent

Wilbur T. Wright Sr., a retired carpenter, died of cancer Friday at Carroll County General Hospital. The Westminster resident was 85.

A retired union carpenter, he was a construction superintendent for Baltimore Contractors in the early 1950s during the building of the Queen Anne's County causeway portion of the Bay Bridge. He later helped build Memorial Stadium, the former Inner Harbor United States Fidelity and Guaranty Building, and the Poly-Western high schools complex on Falls Road.

Born in Carroll County's Taylorsville, Mr. Wright attended Carroll County public schools.

During World War II, he served in the Navy.

He served in the Westminster Volunteer Fire Company for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge, the Knights of Pythias and the Westminster First Church of God.

Mr. Wright enjoyed hunting and was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Scattered Acres Hunting Club.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Survivors include a son, Wilbur T. Wright Jr. of Uniontown; a daughter, Estella Yingling of Parkton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Mae Arnold, died last month.
