Anne Arundel County's state House delegation has postponed election of a new chairman and vice chairman until Monday, due in part to questions regarding proper voting procedure.

Recently elected delegates, who were not allowed to vote at a meeting last month because they had not been sworn in, raised questions last week as to whether they should vote at a meeting that was to be held tomorrow, a few hours before their noon inauguration.

Del. Mary Ann Love, a Glen Burnie Democrat who is chairwoman of the delegation and is seeking re-election, rescheduled the meeting. Love was named in a lawsuit filed last week in Circuit Court by Republicans who are upset that she allowed lame-duck legislators to change delegation rules last month.

The delegation that met last month voted to give one vote each to three delegates from Prince George's County who represent a sliver of Anne Arundel County, ensuring that Democrats retain control of the Anne Arundel delegation. Republicans would outnumber Democrats (and get to choose a chairman) if the Anne Arundel/Prince George's delegates were given one collective vote, as the delegation had previously agreed.
