Audrey Bertha Meeks, 73, public schools secretary

Audrey Bertha Meeks, a longtime secretary in Baltimore County public schools, died of heart failure Saturday at Sinai Hospital. The Randallstown resident was 73.

About 40 years ago, she went to work for the school system at Johnnycake Elementary School in Catonsville.

She subsequently worked at Johnnycake Middle, Scotts Branch Elementary, Deer Park Middle and Old Court Middle schools, and retired in 1993.

Born Audrey Murray and raised in the Baltimore County community of Granite, she was a 1946 graduate of Catonsville High School.

She attended Eton and Burnett Business College in downtown Baltimore.

Mrs. Meeks was a life member of the Liberty Road Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, delivered flowers and mail as a volunteer at Northwest Hospital Center, and was a volunteer at the Liberty Assistance Center.

She also belonged to the United Methodist Women.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, 5113 Old Court Road, Randallstown, where she was a member.

Survivors include a son, Roger R. Meeks Jr. of Eldersburg; a daughter, Michele Leppert of Gamber; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
