Investment club gets county award for development efforts

Richard A. Kohr Jr., a managing member of the Chesapeake Emerging Opportunities Club, announced that the club received a 2002 Economic Development Achievement Award from the Howard County Economic Development Authority.

Kohr, a partner in the Columbia accounting firm McLean, Koehler, Sparks & Hammond, and president of Evergreen Capital LLC, an investment bank, co-founded the club in 2001 with Steve Dubin, president of American Technology Investments Corp. in Columbia. Evergreen is affiliated and partially owned by McLean, Koehler.

Chesapeake serves as a collective investment vehicle for angel investors with a focus on emerging growth biotechnology and information technology companies in the region.

Humanim's Older Adult program wins recognition

Mary Ann Wilkinson, a nurse-therapist who coordinates Humanim's Older Adult Consultation Service, accepted an award for her program from Janssen Pharmaceutica for Best Practices in the Behavioral Disorders Associated with Dementia for 2002.

The consultation service, which provides assessment and treatment for people with age-related mental and physical health problems, and other educational programs, was developed with funding from Horizon Foundation as part of Howard County's Aging in Place Initiative.

Humanim, a human services agency, is based in Columbia.
