George W. Tittle, a mortician and retired employment counselor, died of a heart attack Monday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was 69.

Mr. Tittle, who was born and raised in Jarrettsville, graduated in 1953 from the former Central Consolidated High School in Hickory. He was a 1955 graduate of Echols College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, and established Tittle's Funeral Service in Bel Air in 1965.

After closing the funeral establishment in the early 1980s, he continued working as a mortician and was associated with the Joseph N. Zannino Jr. Funeral Home in Baltimore.

Mr. Tittle also had been an employment counselor for the state Department of Human Resources for 18 years until retiring in 1988, and was superintendent of Crownsville Veterans Cemetery from 1988 to 1992.

An accomplished builder, Mr. Tittle designed and built the four-bedroom stone ranch-style house in Jarrettsville where he and his family lived for the past 29 years.

For many years, he enjoyed riding a blue chrome British Small Arms 650cc motorcycle and playing golf regularly at the Winters Run course in Bel Air.

He attended St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church, 141 Hickory Ave. in Bel Air, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Mr. Tittle is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Ann Jeanette Hall; four sons, George Andre Tittle of Columbia, Troy A. Tittle of Forest Hill, and Jeffrey A. Tittle and Michael A. Tittle, both of Jarrettsville; a daughter, Ann Georgette Tittle of Jarrettsville; three brothers, William F. Tittle Jr., Clarence Tittle and Richard Tittle, all of Jarrettsville; three sisters, Hermoine Horsey of Jarrettsville, Eva Brown of Baltimore and Mabel Williams of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
