Va. man killed, three injured in series of collisions on I-95

THE BALTIMORE SUN

PERRYVILLE - A Virginia man was struck and killed yesterday evening while waving traffic away from his broken-down van on the Interstate 95 bridge over the Susquehanna River, and three others were injured in related collisions, state police reported.

The Virginia victim - a man in his 70s whose name was not immediately released - was standing behind his rented van that was disabled in the slow lane of southbound I-95 on the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge when he was struck and pinned by an oncoming car about 6:30 p.m.

The car, then out of control, was struck by two other southbound vehicles, police said.

The injured - also not named last night - were treated for minor injuries at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace.

Southbound traffic was detoured onto U.S. 40 to cross the river between Routes 222 and 155.
