Mac's Miracle Fund / Special Olympics Maryland

Hey, who said this wasn't a workout? Some 500 folks filled racquetball and basketball courts in Merritt's Downtown Athletic Club for "Muscle Beach Bash." They worked up a sweat doing all that eating, drinking and playing casino-style games. What also helped raise a few heart rates were the Baltimore Ravens players and coaches, like Jonathan Ogden, Edwin Mulitalo, Ethan Brooks, Alvin Porter, Maake Kemoeatu, Anthony Weaver, Riddick Parker, Marques Douglas, Matt Stover, Mike Smith and Rex Ryan, who were there to meet and greet.

And then there was the party host, former Raven Michael McCrary. The shindig was a fund-raiser for his foundation, Mac's Miracle Fund, and for Special Olympics Maryland.

Among this crowd of "exercise enthusiasts": Kelley Wallace and Sandy McCrary, event committee members; Pat Krebs, Special Olympics Maryland president / CEO; Vanessa Milio, Police Athletic League executive director; Terry Dezzutti, Merritt Athletic Clubs chief operating officer; Curtis McCrary, father of Michael McCrary; Kristin Lee, First Mariner Bank marketing director; Devone Farrackan, community volunteer; Tom Kelly, Aerotek finance director; Marcy Kolodny, Dyslexia Tutoring Program executive director; Amy Williams, Elon University student; Scott McKelvie, Cingular Wireless director of sales; John Barnes, EPS Technology Solutions president; Rhonda Jones, community volunteer; Todd Cowing, Tesco sales manager; Dana Darney, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health research interviewer; Bob Leffler, Leffler Agency owner; and Jerry Pivec, Pivec Pro Sports owner.

The bash raised more than $33,000 for Mac's Miracle Fund and Special Olympics Maryland.

Historic Annapolis Foundation

Folks looking for an old-fashioned Christmas didn't have to look any farther than the William Paca House in Annapolis. Historic Annapolis Foundation staff and volunteers had gone all-out to decorate the structure in 18th-century holiday style. Then they threw a party, "Music and Candlelight," to cap the foundation's year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

About 100 guests toured the manse and watched demonstrations of 18th-century Colonial dances. Then they gathered in the basement for a concert by the Bayfield Brass quintet, and were treated to punch and cookies.

Helping spread old-time holiday cheer: Brad Davidson, Historic Annapolis Foundation board chairman; Brian Alexander, foundation president / CEO; Edward Farrell, foundation events coordinator; Heather Ersts Venters, foundation curator; Barbara Martin, Maria Day and Dryden Barnes, event docents; Emilie Martin, Boston registered nurse; Bobbie Filleaux, Omni House administrative assistant to the CEO; Deborah Cartee, Parkville dental hygienist; Dr. Stan Weimer, Annapolis Pediatric partner; Martha Knoblich, Indian Creek School archivist; Jakob Carstensen, IBM technical support manager; Libby Brady, Coldwell Banker real estate agent; Avis Halberstadt, Severna Park Middle School math teacher; Tom Coal, Calvert Utilities project supervisor; Barbara Donahue, Anne Arundel County inspections and permits administrative assistant; Vicky Commins, Carr Lowrey Glass Co.; and David Mykita, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ticket agent.
