School system offers GED tests, practice
The Carroll County school system offers GED tests and practice sessions for the exam for those age 16 and older who wish to earn their high school diploma.
The two-day General Educational Development test consists of five sections: math; science; social studies; literature and the arts; and writing skills.
Individuals must be 16 or older, have been a state resident for at least 90 days, have been withdrawn from school for at least 90 days and pay a fee for the test.
The next test dates are from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 9 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road.

Student Services director receives state award
Cyndy Little, director of Student Services for the Carroll County Public School System, is the recipient of the 2002 State School Health Council Leadership Award.
The award is presented annually by the Maryland State School Health Council to an outstanding individual for major, career-long contributions to comprehensive school health programs in the state.
Little's contributions include improving and expanding the Peer Counselor Program, beginning and facilitating the County Crisis Team, advocating for elementary guidance counselors in all elementary schools, and developing and assisting in the implementation of the Violence Prevention Program.
In addition, she developed behavior specialists positions at the elementary level; distance learning programs for students unable to attend school for behavior or health reasons; and coordinated services between schools and various community agencies to obtain needed services for students.
She has been with the school system for 26 years. As Student Services director, she oversees adult programs, alternative programs, guidance and counseling, health services, pupil personnel, safe and drug-free schools program, school psychology and school security.
