County chamber announces meetings for next month
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce has announced its monthly meetings.
A general membership luncheon will be held at noon Jan. 16 at Martin's Westminster in 140 Village Shopping Center. The cost is $18, and the deadline for reservations is Jan. 9. The Carroll County commissioners will discuss the state of the county and plans for next year and beyond.
The Connections After Hours networking opportunity and business card exchange will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster. The college's new buildings and programs will be showcased. This is an informal gathering of members to network and exchange business cards. Reservations are required by Jan. 15.
The networking breakfast will be at 8 a.m. Jan. 28 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers on Route 140. "The Chamber on Location" will feature Westminster, with Mayor Kevin E. Dayhoff sharing news about the town. The cost for the meal is $12. Reservations are required by Jan. 21.

Assisted-living home sets open house for Saturday
Country Care LLC, a Bonds Forest assisted-living home, will hold an open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
People are welcome to visit the new facility, scheduled to open Jan. 6 at 2261 Old Westminster Pike, across from Sandymount Park.
Country Care will accommodate 16 residents in a homelike environment. The facility is in a 19th-century farmhouse and will include parlors and dining and activity areas. Private bedrooms have their own bathrooms.
Staff will assist residents with daily living tasks and medication monitoring. Other services include laundry, meals, housekeeping, transportation and activities.

Employment center offers programs for job-seekers
The Carroll County Business and Employment Resource Center offers a variety of workshops and programs to help people who may be seeking a job or looking for a new career.
Monthly programs include: career ability and orientation placement survey, preparing for a job fair, employment goal identification, choosing child care, surviving layoffs, how to apply for a state job, computer and Internet basics, job discrimination, computerizing resumes, interviewing, how to negotiate, starting your own business, registering and posting resumes on the Internet, time and money management, networking, professional cover letters and resumes, job references, and dealing with and making changes in your life.

LAI names Sterner medical products director
LAI Companies of Westminster has named Thomas Sterner, an employee since 1984, as director of medical products.
He has served in various production and management positions, including laser operations and sales. He has 19 years of technical experience in laser processing and 13 years in waterjet processing.
LAI is a combined laser and waterjet manufacturing service provider.
Chapel Valley announces the promotion of L. Conrad
Chapel Valley Landscape Company of Woodbine has announced the promotion of Lawrence R. Conrad to regional manager for the Virginia region, effective Wednesday.
He joined the company in 2000 as a sales executive and was later promoted to commercial sales manager for the Virginia region.
Conrad has more than 26 years experience in the landscape industry, with the past 12 years in commercial landscape construction, sales and operations.
He will be responsible for managing all sales and operations in Virginia.
