Edmondson tops Mount de Sales in OT at Comet Classic, 55-53

The Edmondson girls basketball team rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit, withstood a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation by Mount de Sales' Nicole Holtman, then controlled overtime to beat the Sailors, 55-53, and advance to the semifinals of the Comet Classic at Catonsville.

The Red Storm (2-1) will play 12th-ranked Seton Keough in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal today.

Senior point guard Ciera Green had 23 points, 12 assists and six steals for Edmondson.

Junior guard Tykisha Countess scored four points in overtime, including the decisive basket with 16 seconds left.

"We really played hard and so did Mount de Sales. The game could have gone either way," Edmondson coach Elise Collier said.

No. 12 Seton Keough 50, Randallstown 22: The Gators (4-3) routed the Rams behind 11 points from junior Kristen McLaughlin.

No. 5 Dunbar 50, Bryn Mawr 39: Junior forward Andrea Dodrill scored 23 points for the Mawrtians (2-5), but it was not enough to overcome a stellar defensive effort by the Poets (5-0).

Dunbar, which got 15 points forced 39 turnovers in the win, which sends the Poets to today's 7:15 p.m. semifinal against Catonsville.

Catonsville 65, Poly 46: Sisters Carly and Sandy Wasserbach each scored 15 points to carry the host Comets (2-4) past the Engineers.

Fred Stauffer Capital City Classic

Glen Burnie 57, Northern-Calvert 53: The backcourt of sophomore Lakiva Brown and senior Jackie Wineke combined for 43 points, as the Gophers (2-3) edged the Patriots in the tournament opener at Annapolis.

Glen Burnie plays Annapolis in today's 5 p.m. final.

Annapolis 59, Hammond 43: Five players scored in double figures for the host Panthers (3-1), led by 13 apiece from senior Whitney Crankfield and Samantha Sydney.

Enterprise Holiday Classic

Atholton 51, Bishop McGuiness (N.C.) 44: In High Point, N.C., the Raiders (3-2) edged Bishop McGuiness thanks to 21 points and 13 rebounds from sophomore Allie Scott.

Chelsey Barrett added 18 points for Atholton.

Howard Holiday Tournament

Einstein 55, Howard 34: Guards Miki Johnson, Kara Moss and Tierra Cobbs each scored eight points, but the host Lions (0-7) fell to the Titans (3-3) from Montgomery County.
