The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:
"Year-round Family Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 9:45 a.m. today on "Story Time Favorites."
"On My Own Story Time: Best Friends" for ages 3 to 6 at 9:45 a.m. Monday and 1:30 p.m. Jan. 2. This theme-based story time is for children who are ready for an independent small group experience.
"Jump Into Applique" at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 and 16 for adults. Students will learn basic freezer paper applique techniques using heart and leaf shapes and will complete a quilted pillow top. A materials list will be provided at registration.

Syracuse names Baltic a Chancellor's Scholar
Sarah Baltic of Union Bridge, a student at Syracuse University in New York, has been named a Chancellor's Scholar.
Chancellor's scholarships are awarded to entering first-year and transfer students who show outstanding academic achievement. To receive the award, students must have strong academic credentials, be active in extracurricular and community activities, and demonstrate good character and citizenship.
The scholarship is for $6,000 and is renewable.
Marchincin completes Marine basic training
Marine Corps Pvt. Aaron J. Marchincin recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
A 2002 graduate of Linganore High School, he is the son of Carol Marchincin of Union Bridge and Ronald Marchincin of Baltimore.
