Sentencing set for man convicted in fatal arson

A West Baltimore man convicted of setting fire to his girlfriend's house and killing the woman's grandmother inside is scheduled for sentencing tomorrow for felony murder, attempted murder and arson.

Leroy Spencer of the 2400 block of Presbury St., who was convicted by a jury in October, set his girlfriend's house on fire after an argument in July, an act that Assistant State's Attorney April Gluckstern described as "one of the more outrageous, heinous acts I've ever seen."

The occupants of the house escaped harm except for the grandmother, who became enveloped in flames. She was sent to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she died 64 days later.
