An Aberdeen man and a Maryland correctional officer were arrested yesterday on drug charges after he was stopped for speeding on Interstate 95 and found to be wanted on a child-support warrant, state police reported.
Trooper Chris Armiger said the car -- a green 1997 Mercury Sable -- was northbound near Belcamp when he clocked it at 80 mph -- 15 mph more than the limit -- about 2:30 a.m., and that he arrested driver Ronald Anthony Ashton, 28, of Stevens Circle after finding he was wanted for failure to pay child support.
Armiger said his subsequent search of the car turned up 64.8 grams of powdered cocaine and 72.5 grams of crack cocaine in a bag under the passenger seat, and a marijuana cigarette in an ashtray.
Ashton and Dawn Monique McCray, 29, of the 900 block of Fox Ridge Lane in Essex, who works in the prison system's reception and diagnostic center in Baltimore, were held on charges of possession and possession with intent to distribute both types of cocaine, and possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, the trooper said.
