NFL WEEK 16

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Detroit (3-11) at Atlanta (8-5-1)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Falcons by 10 1/2 .

Key stat: Falcons have allowed 88 points in their past three games.

Worth watching: Mike McMahon, who has completed only 32 of 70 with one TD pass and two interceptions, starts for Lions. Falcons QB Michael Vick has thrown 13 TD passes vs. six interceptions.

Outlook: Joey Harrington's heart ailment prevented a matchup of two of the NFL's best young quarterbacks. Vick's job is to control the ball enough to keep the Falcons' defense off the field.

Buffalo (7-7) at Green Bay (11-3)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Packers by 6 1/2 .

Worth watching: Bills RB Travis Henry having a huge year, rushing for 1,312 yards (4.8 avg.). RB Ahman Green leads Packers with 1,057 yards (4.3 avg.).

Outlook: Brett Favre generally doesn't let the Packers lose cold-weather home games. Green Bay can still move up from its current No. 3 seed in the NFC.

Chicago (4-10) at Carolina (5-9)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Panthers by 3.

Key stat: Panthers are 3-4 at home (victories over Ravens, Lions and Bengals).

Worth watching: Bears are 2-4 in games QB Chris Chandler has started. Panthers QB Rodney Peete has thrown 13 TD passes vs. 12 interceptions.

Outlook: In one of the weekend's few meaningless games, the Bears will continue to look at young players taking the place of injured veterans. The Panthers will rely on RB Dee Brown, averaging 3.9 yards a carry.

N.Y. Giants (8-6) at Indianapolis (9-5)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

TV: Ch. 45.

Line: Colts by 5.

Key stat: It's Colts' No. 11 offense vs. Giants' No. 9 defense.

Worth watching: Giants DE Michael Strahan has 11 sacks. Colts rookie DE Dwight Freeney is second in AFC with 10.

Outlook: The Colts' improved defense has led team to five wins in the past six weeks. The Colts still have a shot at the AFC South title, and the Giants are just a half game out of the last NFC wild-card spot.

Tennessee (9-5) at Jacksonville (6-8)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Titans by 3.

Key stat: Titans have won six of past eight vs. Jaguars.

Worth watching: Jaguars QB Mark Brunell has thrown 17 TD passes vs. six interceptions. Titans QB Steve McNair has thrown 21 TD passes vs. 14 interceptions.

Outlook: The Titans are the NFL's hottest team, having won eight of nine. They have a chance to be the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Only a post-Monday night letdown should stop them here.

San Diego (8-6) at Kansas City (7-7)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Chiefs by 1 1/2 .

Key stat: Past four meetings have been decided by a total of 10 points.

Worth watching: QB Drew Brees, who has thrown only 12 TD passes vs. 15 interceptions, stays as San Diego's starter. Chiefs QB Trent Green has thrown 23 TD passes vs. 11 interceptions.

Outlook: The Chiefs go without injured RB Priest Holmes, and he may take their offense to the sideline with him.

New Orleans (9-5) at Cincinnati (1-13)

Time: 1 p.m. today.

Line: Saints by 7.

Key stat: Saints are 5-2 on the road; Bengals are 0-7 at home.

Worth watching: Saints QB Aaron Brooks leads NFL with 26 TD passes. Bengals RB Corey Dillon has rushed for 1,132 yards.

Outlook: The Saints lead the race for the NFC's first wild-card berth, which will mean a trip to San Francisco in the first round. The Saints finish with Carolina at home, so they may as well book that trip.

St. Louis (6-8) at Seattle (5-9)

Time: 4:05 p.m. today.

TV: Ch. 45.

Line: Seahawks by 1.

Key stat: Seahawks have averaged 31 points in their past four games (2-2).

Worth watching: Rams QB Marc Bulger has thrown 14 TD passes vs. six interceptions and leads NFL with passer rating of 101.4. WR Koren Robinson leads Seahawks with 65 catches, four for TDs.

Outlook: The Seahawks have played better as the games become more meaningless. But Bulger has shown that he can put up big numbers against poor defenses, and the Seahawks rank 30th.

Denver (8-6) at Oakland (9-5)

Time: 4:15 p.m. today.

TV: Ch. 9.

Line: Raiders by 4.

Key stat: It's Raiders' No. 1 offense vs Broncos' No. 7 defense.

Worth watching: Raiders WR Jerry Rice is third in AFC with 87 catches, seven for TDs. WR Rod Smith leads Broncos with 79 catches, four for TDs.

Outlook: After shaking off last week's loss at Miami, the Raiders should resume their march to the AFC West title. The last time they met, Raiders QB Rich Gannon completed an NFL record 21 straight passes.

N.Y. Jets (7-7) at New England (8-6)

Time: 8:30 p.m. today.

TV: ESPN.

Line: Patriots by 3 1/2 .

Key stat: It's Patriots' No. 18 offense vs. Jets' No. 24 defense.

Worth watching: Jets QB Chad Pennington has thrown 15 TD passes vs. six interceptions. Patriots QB Tom Brady has thrown 26 TD passes vs. 11 interceptions.

Outlook: The Jets lost any realistic shot at the playoffs by losing to the Bears last week. The Patriots have to be careful because they could miss the playoffs entirely.
