Farm credit cooperative pays members $6.7 million

MidAtlantic Farm Credit has announced the payment of more than $6.7 million to its member borrowers as part of the cooperative lending organization's patronage refund program.

The money comes from surplus awarded to member-borrowers in 1996, and is in addition to the $5.3 million returned to members in April.

MidAtlantic Farm Credit, based in Westminster, is the largest agricultural lender on the East Coast, with more than $1 billion in loans to more than 9,000 members.

Carroll 4-H offering tractor-safety course

The 2003 Carroll County 4-H Tractor Safety/Certification Course is open to youth ages 8 to 18 who wish to be to certified to operate certain types of farm machinery.

Youths ages 14 and older will be able to take a written and driving test to earn a certificate of training from the Department of Labor.

Experienced instructors coordinate the training program.

Registration is not required, but the Carroll County Extension Office asks those interested in the course to call so sufficient materials will be available.
