Jann Lee Buttiglieri, a labor union official and former telephone company employee, died of cancer Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Sparks resident was 51.

She was an international representative, officer and health care benefits coordinator for the Communication Workers of America during the past 30 years.

Born in Huntington, W.Va., Jann Lee Hoskins graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1969 and attended Marshall University in Huntington.

She moved to Baltimore in 1986 as an employee of Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co., where she was a service representative at its Inner Harbor office. For the past decade, she worked for the union as a health care coordinator and representative. Among other assignments, she helped negotiate contracts for communications workers at area community colleges and at Verizon.

Active in state Democratic politics, she served on the Baltimore County Wage and Salary Board during the administrations of County Executives Dennis F. Rasmussen and Roger B. Hayden.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Charles "Boots" Buttiglieri, assistant to the president of the Baltimore AFL-CIO; two daughters, Samantha Smith of Hampstead and Michelle Bevis of Bel Air; a stepson, Charles Buttiglieri Jr. of Manassas, Va.; a stepdaughter, Angela Buttiglieri of Pikesville; her mother, Rosalie Brady of Sarasota, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
