David S. Friedman, 90, lawyer in Balto. County

THE BALTIMORE SUN

David Sylvan Friedman, a retired Baltimore County lawyer, died yesterday of prostate cancer at his Pikesville home. He was 90.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Boarman Avenue, he was a 1928 graduate of Forest Park High School. He earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1931 -- at age 19.

Family members said he was too young then to be admitted to the practice of law, so he worked as a title examiner for Title Guarantee Corp. until turning 21.

He initially practiced law in a 36th Street office in Hampden and provided legal counsel to many Hampden social organizations, including the Togom and Rangers clubs, both of which made him an honorary member.

Later, he joined Joshua W. Miles, a tax attorney, in forming the law firm of Miles and Friedman. Mr. Friedman's son, Louis F. Friedman, who lives in Pikesville, joined them in 1965. In the 1970s, after Mr. Miles' retirement, the name was changed to Friedman & Friedman. The firm is located in Towson.

Mr. Friedman was a former president of Bonnie View Country Club, a past grand chancellor of Maryland of the Knights of Pythias, and a member of its Jacob Sandy Lodge.

Services will be held at noon today at Sol Levinson & Bros., 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Miriam Sugarman; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
