Eula M. Williams, a former West Baltimore recreation center director, died Sunday of undetermined causes at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Northeast Baltimore. The former Ashburton resident was 69.
Before she suffered a spinal stroke in 1983, Mrs. Williams was senior director of the Easterwood Park Recreation Center at Bentalou and Baker streets.
Born Eula Mae Pittman in Edgecombe County, N.C., she moved to Baltimore in the 1950s and earned a bachelor's degree from what is now Morgan State University in physical education and home economics. She taught both subjects at Douglass High School before taking a job with the city Department of Recreation and Parks.
Since 1983, Mrs. Williams had lived in nursing homes. She was a member of the League Serving People with Disabilities, where she received weekly physical therapy. She was also president of the resident council of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home on the grounds of Good Samaritan Hospital. She had lived there for the past decade.
She was a former business manager of the Victoria Club, a Northwest Baltimore social organization.
Her 1960 marriage to James Williams ended in divorce.
A funeral will begin with a wake at noon tomorrow at Estep Brothers Funeral Home, 1300 Eutaw Place, with a service at 1 p.m.
Survivors include two sons, Aldric E. Pittman and Eric L. Pittman, both of Baltimore; a sister, Vulia Pittman of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.
