'Tell Me on a Sunday' at Kennedy

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Andrew Lloyd Webber's one-woman musical, Tell Me on a Sunday, started life as the song half of a 1982 double bill titled Song and Dance. Since then, the show has broken free and received a number of productions on its own. The latest of these opens tonight at Washington's Kennedy Center.

Broadway actress Alice Ripley stars as Emma, a young British woman who moves to New York and becomes romantically involved with a diverse series of suitors. Most recently seen at the Kennedy Center as the frazzled bride in Stephen Sondheim's Company this past summer, Ripley received a Tony nomination for her performance in Side Show. Her other Broadway credits include Les Miserables and Sunset Boulevard.

Tell Me on a Sunday is directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The show has lyrics by Don Black, augmented and adapted for American audiences by Richard Maltby Jr.

Show times at the Kennedy Center are 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays, with matinees at 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Dec. 26. A New Year's Eve show (Dec. 31) begins at 9 p.m. Performances continue through Jan. 12. Tickets are $25-$90 (except the New Year's Eve show, which costs $80-$120). Call 800-444-1324.
