Man fleeing police charged in hitting officer with van
A man named in an ex parte court order was arrested yesterday after fleeing county police officers serving the papers at his Glen Burnie home, and allegedly hitting one of them with his van, authorities said.
Western District Sgt. William Collier, 50, and at least one other officer were seeking Joseph Paul Reeder, 50, about 3:15 p.m. when the man bolted from his house in the 400 block of Worth Road, entered his van and sped off, said Officer Michael Krok, a police spokesman.
Collier, struck by the van, was being treated last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in fair condition.
Krok said Reeder led police on a brief chase that ended at the District Court building in Glen Burnie, where the man was arrested. He was charged with assault with intent to kill the officer and multiple traffic offenses, the spokesman said.
