THE BALTIMORE SUN

Richard L. Yaffe Jr., a Baltimore native whose career in the printing industry spanned more than 30 years, died Dec. 9 of a heart attack at his home in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 49.

Known to his friends as "Rick," Mr. Yaffe was born in Baltimore and raised in Reisterstown, where he graduated from Franklin High School in 1971.

He immediately went to work for Port City Press in Pikesville, moving on to Sheridan Press in Hanover, Pa., and Bindo Graphics in Baltimore. At those companies, he worked in various phases of printing as production planner, office manager and production manager.

Several years ago, he went to work for GE Richards Graphics Supplies in Baltimore, working first as a salesman and later as branch manager. More recently, he was transferred to the company's Jacksonville facility, where he was the sales manager.

"He was extremely well known [to people] throughout the printing industry," said his mother, Virginia Hubbard Yaffe of Reisterstown. "As a salesman, he got around to all of them."

Mr. Yaffe was an avid golfer and a sprint car racing fan. He also was a Civil War buff who read extensively on the topic, and he enjoyed camping with his sons, Eric and Mark Yaffe, at the Gettysburg battlefield.

"He was a devoted family man," said his father, Richard Yaffe of Reisterstown. "His children worshiped him."

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

In addition to his sons, who live in Jacksonville, and his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lacinda Yaffe of Jacksonville; his brother, Robert Yaffe of Finksburg, and sister, Nancy Hagerty of Westminster; and many nieces and nephews.
