Brooklyn Park principal named education leader

Brenda Hurbanis, principal of Brooklyn Park Middle School, has been named the distinguished education leader for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for this year. The middle-school staff nominated Hurbanis for the award, which is sponsored by the Washington Post.

"Hurbanis epitomizes the words 'instructional visionary.' The commitment to the mission, vision and values of the school is always evident in her action and words," said her staff in the nomination.

The veteran educator, who began teaching in the county 28 years ago, has served as a school administrator, teacher and guidance counselor. She also has coordinated the Instructional Leadership Program, serves as an instructor for the system's Introduction to Administration course, and continues to present professional development training at the county, state and national level.
