Elizabeth Redmond, a homemaker and a former hotel cook, died of complications from surgery Monday at Sinai Hospital. She was 81 and lived in Randallstown.
Born Elizabeth Rowe in Westernport in Allegany County, she was raised in Keyser, W.Va., where she graduated from high school.
In 1942, she married Vernon S. Redmond, a mechanic, who died in 1981.
While living in Cumberland, Mrs. Redmond was employed as a cook at the Holiday Inn.
"She was a dedicated cook at the hotel," said a daughter, Mary M. Redmond of Randallstown. "And she is remembered for her large meals, Italian dishes, desserts and homemade rolls."
Mrs. Redmond also enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and friends.
"With a heart of gold, she would give you whatever she had, though sometimes it was her last," her daughter said.
After retiring in 1974, she lived in New Mexico before moving to Randallstown in 1976.
She enjoyed traveling, playing slot machines and bingo. She also liked watching her favorite movies, Cabin in the Sky, It's a Wonderful Life and Imitation of Life. She was also a regular viewer of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, family members said.
Services for Mrs. Redmond were held Thursday.
Mrs. Redmond is survived by three sons, Vernon Junior Redmond of Cumberland, Michael Redmond of Randallstown and Gary Redmond of Albuquerque, N.M.; three other daughters, Deborah Turner, Delores Gibson and Dianna Redmond, all of Randallstown; a brother, Richard Rowe of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Charlotte Rowe Hurtt of Reisterstown; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
