Agnes E. Karat, a retired American Institute of Banking administrator and former Hamilton resident, died Saturday of a heart attack at her home in Oxford, Pa. She was 80.
Born Agnes E. Kushnerick in Jeddo, Pa., she was a graduate of Hazleton High School in Pennsylvania. She was also a graduate of McCann Business College in Hazelton.
In 1948, she married Alexander J. Karat, a salesman, who died in 1978.
Mrs. Karat was an administrator for 30 years for the American Institute of Banking in Baltimore, until her retirement in 1995.
A resident of Oxford since 2000, she had lived for many years in Hamilton and briefly in Millsboro, Del.
An avid reader of fiction, she read three books a week, family members said. She also liked traveling and visiting the ocean.
Mrs. Karat was a former communicant of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at noon Saturday at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 203 Church Road, Oxford, Pa. Mrs. Karat is survived by two sons, John Karat of Greenwich, Conn., and Charles Karat of Oxford, Pa.; two daughters, Susan E. MacAdams of Petosky, Mich., and Nancy A. Karat of Laurel; three brothers, John P. Kushnerick of Media, Pa., Albert Kushnerick of Elverson, Pa., and Joseph Kushnerick of Pottstown, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
