Donald Wilmer Hayden Jr., who collected and restored Corvair automobiles, died of undetermined causes Dec. 4 at his home in the Somerset County community of Champ. He was 56.
Mr. Hayden was born and raised in Baltimore's Mount Washington section. He was a graduate of the now-closed Baltimore Institute, a trade and business school, and attended the University of Baltimore.
Until retiring on a medical disability, Mr. Hayden worked as a typesetter for Evans Printing Co. and for a Baltimore home improvement company. He had lived in Champ since 1994.
He was an avid collector and restorer of 1960s Chevrolet Corvairs. He also enjoyed repairing electrical and mechanical items.
Mr. Hayden had been a member and deacon of Mount Washington Presbyterian Church, now Valley Presbyterian Church at 2200 W. Joppa Road in Lutherville, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.
He is survived by four sisters, Dottie Gilman of Queenstown; Jeanne Kniceley of Salisbury, Kathy Randall of Lutherville and Susanne Schwarz of Mount Washington; and many nephews and nieces.
