FLAVORFUL GIFTS

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Parties to attend, presents to wrap, cookies to bake. Who has time to shop? There's an abundance of catalog and Internet retailers standing ready to ship your gift selections to almost anywhere. Here are a few tasty items we found:

Pleasing those cocoa lovers

Lands' End offers more than turtlenecks and chinos. The company also has a selection of food items for giving and entertaining. Send warm greetings to someone on your list with the Hot Cocoa Lover's Gift Set. The package includes cocoa mix, marshmallows, chocolate-covered graham crackers and peppermint stick stirrers. Available for $44 at www.landsend.com or by calling 800-963-4816.

Satisfying a taste for caviar

If you really want to impress your loved one (or if you're looking for a way to spend the Christmas bonus), take a look at the caviar selections in Mackenzie Ltd.'s catalog. The Russian Caviar sampler, which includes 1 ounce each of beluga, osetra and sevruga caviar, as well as 1 ounce of salmon caviar and 2 ounces of American Paddlefish caviar, is $199.95. The Iranian sampler, with 1 ounce each of beluga, osetra and sevruga caviar, is $249.95. The samplers are available at www.mackenzieltd.com or by calling 800-858-7100.

Toffees that are tempting

For more than 75 years, the folks at Swiss Colony have been making holiday treats. They started with cheese and have expanded to include meats and all kinds of sweets. One of our favorites is the butter toffees, which have been dressed up for the holidays in decorations of snowmen, holly, candles and Christmas trees. A tin of 26 is $14.95. For a catalog, call 800-804-5188 or visit www.theswisscolony.com.

Chocolate-dipped treats

Chocolate fans will enjoy Chocolate Caramel Champignons from Williams-Sonoma. The mushroom-shaped delicacies are made in Paris by chocolatier Michael Cluizel. They feature a crunchy almond croquant dipped in rich dark chocolate. The caramel stem is covered in white chocolate in a process that takes two days to complete. A 5.29-ounce box of eight costs $14.

Visit www.williams-sonoma.com or call 877-812-6235.

This company specializes in jumbo lump crab cakes, but also offers shrimp and lobster dishes, quiche and dip. A Chesapeake Bay sampler, which includes four crab cakes, three imperial shrimp, two crab imperials and a pint of crab soup, costs $48.
