Dewey T. Jordan, a Frederick roads and bridges contractor, died of pneumonia Thursday at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was 88, and had lived in Frederick for nearly a half-century.

The Statesville, N.C., native was former owner and president of Dewey Jordan Inc., a road and bridge construction firm he established in the 1940s. Last year, he was inducted into the Maryland Highway and Bridge Contractors Hall of Fame and recognized for his work on Interstates 70 and 270 and Route 15 in Frederick.

A longtime board member of St. John's at Prospect Hall High School in Frederick, Mr. Jordan was the 1993 recipient of the John McElroy Award for his contributions to Catholic education in Frederick County.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Frederick, where Mr. Jordan was a member.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, the former Stella Fields; two sons, Robert Jordan of Oklahoma City and Kenneth Jordan of Burkittsville; two daughters, Gwendolyn Bausum of Frederick and Kathy Acosta of Carlsbad, Calif.; two stepsons, Michael Fields of Walkersville and Brad Fields of Pittsburgh; a sister, Lorna Barker of Waynesville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Jordan's first wife, Lorene Weber, died in 1974.
